Challenge

The goal was to create a mobile and desktop solution that logs and displays data from various external scientific sensors for education, sports, medicine, and environmental applications.

The app needed to establish Bluetooth (BLE) or cable (USB) connections, interpret data from these sensors, and show real-time information in tables and customizable graphs.

It also had to support multiple sensors working at the same time and accommodate a range of built-in and external sensors, including those for ambient and body temperature, light, conductivity, accelerometer data, magnetic field, air pressure, voltage, nitrate-ion, chloride-ion, blood pressure, blood glucose, respiratory rate, and more.

Approach

The app allowed users to easily connect different sensor modules to their smartphones, tablets, or PCs using Bluetooth or USB cables. Made with Flutter, this cross-platform app enabled users to choose from various built-in and external sensors to start their experiments.

The sensors collected data and sent it to the user's device, where the app displayed the information in tables or real-time graphs. Users could see one or more graphs of data from a single experiment, making it simple to compare results with earlier experiments.

Overall, the app served as a handy tool for recording and analyzing sensor measurements.

Result

SCAND has created a cross-platform DAQ app that works with external sensor modules. This app is available for iOS, Android, and desktop (Windows, Linux, and MacOS) and can be used in education and various scientific fields, including ecology, biology, physics, chemistry, sports, environmental studies, and medicine.
